Oshawa jewellery thieves nabbed Print

Durham Regional Police report that three suspects are in custody following two jewellry robberies at Oshawa retail locations this week.

On Wednesday January 19, 2011 at approximately 5 p.m. a male suspect entered the Zellers Store on Simcoe Street south in Oshawa and requested an employee display jewellery items to him for consideration to purchase. Several items were handed-over to the suspect, who then told the employee he was armed with a handgun and would be leaving the store with the unpaid merchandise. The employee was threatened but not physically harmed.

The suspect then attended the Sears store at the Oshawa Centre and requested to view jewelry at the display counter with an employee. Once the merchandise was in hand, the suspect indicated he was armed and leaving the premises with the unpaid items. Again, an employee was threatened but not physically harmed.

The suspect was observed by an off-duty DRPS officer at a local coffee shop in Oshawa following both robberies. Uniform officers attended and arrested the suspect, without incident. Search warrants resulted in the recovery of all of the stolen items and additional arrests and charges for two suspects involved in the incident.
