New mental health floor at Lakeridge Print

A new Adult Mental Health floor has been opened at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

The new Adult Mental Health Unit is part of a $91.5 million redevelopment project at Lakeridge Health Oshawa being managed by Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

The 30-bed Inpatient Mental Health unit opened for patient care on Wednesday, December 15th and includes a 10-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, a Step Down Unit, Crisis Intervention Team, Medical Staff and other health disciplines. Other features include state-of-the-art security and monitoring systems and specially-designed patient safety details.

"Lakeridge Health has a rich history of delivering quality healthcare to our community,” says Kevin Empey, Lakeridge Health President and CEO. “As the primary provider of acute care inpatient mental health service within Durham Region, the new Adult Mental Health area provides our staff a wonderful facility in which to continue that tradition," he adds.

Construction on the Lakeridge Health’s C-wing began in March 2009 and it is more than 80 per cent complete. Currently, there are more than 85 local construction workers on site daily and the project is progressing towards completion in spring 2011.
