About Us

Future Home of OshawaWhitby.com

We're building a website focusing on the city of Oshawa and town of Whitby, two neighbouring municipalities in the heart of Ontario's Durham Region.

Dynamic and growing, these interconnected municipalities share a common infastructure and many of the same services, yet each has a different story.

The City of Oshawa

A city of 170,000 people on the shores of Lake Ontario, Oshawa has a long and varied history, a vibrant present and a bright future. It's transition from a manufacturing giant to a university town has been ongoing, and is just part of its colorful story.

The Town of Whitby

Home to close to 140,000 people (according to the 2021 Census), Whitby was formed in the 1830s. With a colourful sporting history, plenty of recreational facilities and a full range of services, Whitby has a reputation as one of Ontario's most livable communities. The location of the Durham Region's municipal headquarters, Whitby is both a bedroom commuter community of Toronto and a town with its own character and history.

An Automotive Enthusiasts Dream

When Robert McLaughlin set up his carriage business in Oshawa in 1876, he probably didn't foresee that it would lead to the automotive giant it would be become. The McLaughlin Motor Car Company began building cars in 1907, and would eventually form the basis of General Motors of Canada in Oshawa, once known as Canada's "Motor City". Today General Motors still produces trucks here, and the Canadian Automobile Museum in downtown Oshawa is Canada's premier car showcase.
