Turning parking tickets into gifts PDF Print E-mail

Oshawa motorists will have the opportunity to turn the situation of receiving a parking ticket into a positive experience this festive season by donating a new toy in lieu of payment on December 9 and 10, 2010.

The Toys for Tickets program is a great way to give back to the community and help less fortunate families. All toys will be donated to the Durham Regional Police Service Food and Toy Drive and distributed to children in need for the holidays.

The program applies to parking tickets issued by the City of Oshawa between December 1 and December 10. Tickets issued for illegal parking in accessible spaces will not be eligible. Toys will be accepted for children from newborn to the age of 18. The value of the toy must equal or exceed the amount owing on the parking ticket.

A new unwrapped toy with a supporting cash register receipt will be accepted as “payment” at Service Oshawa, located inside City Hall at 50 Centre Street South on December 9 or December 10 from 8 am to 6 pm for each eligible ticket presented.

This will be the fourth year that the City of Oshawa is participating in the Toys for Tickets program. Last year, the City collected over $3,000 worth of toys for children in need. For more
